NSUK Accounting Students Shine at ICAN Quiz Competition, Win Scholarships
Students of the Department of Accounting, Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), have once again distinguished themselves on the national stage by emerging overall winners at the quiz competition organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Abuja and District Society, as part of activities marking its Accounting Week.
The victorious team, made up of 400-level students, delivered an outstanding performance to clinch the top prize, earning both recognition and prestigious scholarship awards from the organisers.
Breaking the exciting news during a presentation at the University’s Council Chamber, the Dean of the Faculty of Administration, Professor Abdullahi D. Zubairu, commended the students for their exceptional achievement. He expressed appreciation to the University Management under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, for fostering a conducive academic environment and providing the necessary support that continues to drive student excellence.

Professor Zubairu noted that this latest victory marks the second consecutive win for NSUK students in the ICAN quiz competition, describing it as clear evidence of the solid academic foundation laid by the Department of Accounting. He further revealed that the organisers awarded full scholarships to the three participants, covering all stages of the ICAN Professional Examination—from the foundation level through to the final professional stage.
In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, applauded the students for bringing honour to the University and sustaining a culture of excellence. She recalled a similar achievement recorded by an Accounting student in the previous year, highlighting the department’s consistency in producing high-performing scholars.
The Vice-Chancellor also praised the Dean and academic staff of the Faculty of Administration for their dedication to mentoring and nurturing students to achieve remarkable success. She reassured the team of the University’s continued support and encouraged them to aim even higher in their academic and professional pursuits. Offering a forward-looking charge, she prayed for their future elevation to positions of influence and impact in public service and beyond.
The award-winning students are Akintoyese Bukola Precious, Cletus Gift, and Timothy Daniel Ovey.
The highlight of the event was the formal presentation of the trophy to the Vice-Chancellor by the Dean, symbolising yet another milestone achievement for Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
