The Vice-Chancellor of Northwest University Kano (NWUK), Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, on Tuesday, 9th June 2026, has led a high-powered delegation of the University on a courtesy visit to the Deputy President of the Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Barau I. Jibrin, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration and seek support for the continued development of the institution.

Speaking during the visit, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded to the University delegation and highlighted the purpose of the visit. She noted that the University was seeking stronger collaboration and intervention from critical stakeholders to complement the remarkable support already being provided by the Kano State Government towards the growth and advancement of the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor has formally presented the request letter to the Deputy Senate President seeking assistance in furnishing newly completed buildings within the University as well as the procurement of computers to enhance teaching, learning, research, and administrative activities.

Professor Bayero further explained that the increasing student population in the University has created the need for additional sporting facilities and the construction of a befitting convocation arena to cater for major academic ceremonies and other institutional events.

She disclosed that since assuming office as Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Senator Barau I. Jibrin had been identified as one of the key personalities the University intended to engage, considering his longstanding commitment to educational development and human capital advancement. She emphasized that all the requests presented were solely aimed at facilitating the progress and development of Northwest University Kano.

The Vice-Chancellor also utilized the opportunity to formally introduce herself as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University and reaffirmed the institution's readiness to work closely with the office of the Deputy Senate President for mutual benefit and national development.

Responding, Senator Barau I. Jibrin expressed delight over the visit and commended the Vice-Chancellor and her team for their foresight and commitment towards the development of the University.

The Deputy Senate President remarked that not every administrator takes the initiative to actively seek support for the growth of their institution, describing the visit as a demonstration of exceptional dedication, commitment, and leadership by Professor Amina Salihi Bayero and her management team.

According to him, education remains at the center of his developmental agenda, stressing that human capital development is the foundation of every prosperous and developed society.

"Human capital development is my foremost priority. Education remains one of the most effective tools for transforming societies and creating opportunities for sustainable development. This conviction has continued to guide my interventions and support for educational institutions," he stated.

He assured the University delegation of his readiness to support the institution and pledged to carefully review the requests submitted by the Vice-Chancellor, promising to explore every possible avenue to facilitate their realization for the continued growth and development of the University.

He noted that government alone cannot shoulder the enormous responsibility of developing educational institutions, emphasizing the importance of interventions from public-spirited individuals and stakeholders.

The Deputy Senate President further pledged to provide a coaster bus to the University as part of his support towards improving transportation and operational efficiency within the institution.

As a mark of appreciation and recognition for his contributions to educational development, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero presented an award to the Deputy Senate President, while the University Registrar, Dr. Adm. Isyaku Adamu, decorated him with a commemorative medal on behalf of the University.

Members of the Vice-Chancellor's delegation included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Aisha Garba Habib; the Registrar, Dr. Adm. Isyaku Adamu; the University Bursar, Malam Salmanu Muhammad Kibiya; the Director, Advancement and Linkages, Professor Abdulmumini Yunusa; the Director of Procurement, Malam Mahmud Abubakar Sadiq; and the University Protocol Officer, Malam Abubakar Ado Gwaram.

The visit marks another significant step in Northwest University Kano's drive to build strategic partnerships and attract interventions aimed at enhancing infrastructure, academic excellence, and the overall development of the institution.
