OAU Mechanical Engineering Students Shine at Science, Technology, and Innovation Expo 2024
A team of Mechanical Engineering students from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) represented Osun State at the 8th Edition of the Science, Technology, and Innovation Expo 2024 in Abuja.
A team of talented students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, showcased their innovative prowess at the 8th Edition of the Science, Technology, and Innovation Expo 2024, held in Abuja from March 11 to 15, 2024.

Selected to represent the Osun State Ministry, the OAU team competed against a diverse array of digital products and innovations from various tertiary institutions, research groups, and state ministries across Nigeria. Despite stiff competition, the OAU team secured the second position in the Sub-National Category with their groundbreaking innovation, the "3-axis CNC milling machine."
The team members behind this remarkable achievement are Alao Kolawole Oluwaseun, Omotosho Ayomide Quadri, Lasaki Ayomide Isaiah, Damilare Marvellous, and Thompson Godwin, under the supervision of Dr. Ajayi Oluwaseun.
The innovation received widespread acclaim for several notable features:

Energy Efficiency: The CNC milling machine exhibits remarkable energy efficiency, consuming less than 1hp of energy, including the router. Its ability to operate directly from a household socket enhances convenience and accessibility.

Economic Viability: Designed with locally sourced materials, the machine demonstrates cost-effectiveness and sustainability, significantly reducing production costs from N5-7 million to N1.2 million.

Rigidity and Speed: Engineered for rigidity, the machine minimizes vibration and ensures stability during operation. Its impressive speed and precise control outperform conventional machines, indicating superior performance.

User-Friendly Interface: Operating the machine is simplified through a USB connection and a PC for generating and transmitting the necessary G-code, enhancing accessibility and usability for a diverse range of users.
The team's exceptional performance at the expo underscored their dedication, creativity, and technical expertise, earning them recognition under the Sub-National Category. Dr. Ajayi Oluwaseun's guidance played a pivotal role in their success.
