Outgoing ABU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kabiru Bala Reflects on Five-Year Tenure

The outgoing Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Prof. Kabiru Bala, has expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve the institution peacefully for five years.

In a farewell address, Prof. Bala noted that despite facing numerous challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, nationwide strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), electricity crisis, and a garnishee order that led to the loss of over N2.5 billion, the university made significant progress under his leadership.

Prof. Bala attributed the university's success to the peace and goodwill enjoyed during his tenure, which enabled the institution to enhance its academic excellence through teaching, research, and community service. He also highlighted the university's increased graduation output, with over 38,000 graduates in one academic session, partly due to the introduction of a special resit examination.

The outgoing Vice-Chancellor expressed his greatest dream for ABU to win a Nobel Prize, emphasizing that with time, the university would achieve this goal given its talented and hardworking scholars. He also stressed the importance of providing good working facilities for staff and quality hostels for students. Prof. Bala's tenure comes to an end on April 30, 2025, and he will be succeeded by Prof. Adamu Ahmed.
