President Tinubu Renames Federal University of Education, Kano, in Honor of Yusuf Maitama Sule

President Tinubu Renames Federal University of Education, Kano, in Honor of Yusuf Maitama Sule

President Bola Tinubu has renamed the Federal University of Education, Kano, to Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, in honor of the late statesman and diplomat, Yusuf Maitama Sule.

This decision, announced by Tinubu's spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, aims to inspire future generations to uphold values of integrity, patriotism, character, and nationalism .

Yusuf Maitama Sule, who passed away in 2017, had a distinguished career, serving as Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, where he chaired the UN Special Committee Against Apartheid. He also held notable positions, including Chief Whip of the Federal House of Representatives, Leader of Nigeria's Delegation to the Conference of Independent States, First Federal Commissioner of Public Complaints, and Minister of Mines and Power .

The institution, now renamed after Sule, is one of seven specialized universities of education under the Federal Government. As a federal university of education, it will continue to play a pivotal role in training teachers, further strengthening Nigeria's education sector .
