The Management of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has appointed Professor Olabode Olatunbosun of the Department of Data Science as the new Dean of the School of Computing.

The Management of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has appointed Professor Olabode Olatunbosun of the Department of Data Science as the new Dean of the School of Computing.

Professor Olatunbosun’s appointment takes effect from August 1, 2026, and will run for a two-year tenure.

The new Dean is an accomplished academic with extensive experience in computer science, data science, statistics, research, and university administration. He obtained his Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree in Industrial Mathematics and Computer from FUTA in 1991, followed by a Master of Technology (M.Tech.) degree in 1999 and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science in 2005 from the same institution.

He also holds a Master of Technology (M.Tech.) degree in Statistics from FUTA, obtained in 2015, and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Peace and Security Studies from Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, in 2021.

Professor Olatunbosun began his academic career as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Industrial Mathematics and Computer Science, FUTA, in 1995. He rose through the academic ranks and was promoted to the position of Professor in the Department of Computer Science in 2015.

Before his appointment as Dean, he served as Acting Head of the Department of Computer Science and contributed to the growth of the University through participation in several committees and administrative responsibilities.

Beyond FUTA, Professor Olatunbosun has contributed to academic development through his service as an external examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in several Nigerian and international universities, including Novena University, Delta State; Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Ikeji-Arakeji; Achievers University, Owo; Kings University, Ode Omu; Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko; Caleb University, Imota; and Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore, India.

A widely travelled scholar, Professor Olatunbosun has authored several academic publications and is a member of recognised professional bodies. His research contributions and academic engagements have further strengthened his reputation in computing and related disciplines.

As Dean of the School of Computing, Professor Olatunbosun is expected to provide strategic leadership in advancing teaching, research, innovation, and industry collaboration while strengthening FUTA’s position as a leading institution in computing education and technology development.

He is married and blessed with children.
