Professor Patricia Manko Lar Appointed Acting Vice Chancellor of UNIABUJA

Professor Patricia Manko Lar, a renowned Professor of Microbiology, has been appointed as the Acting Vice Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University (formerly known as University of Abuja) for a six-month term.

This appointment was made by President Bola Tinwu, as part of a series of leadership changes in federal universities.

Professor Lar brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having served as a Professor at the University of Jos since 2015. Her expertise in medical microbiology, particularly in the areas of infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and phytomedicine, has been recognized through numerous awards and fellowships.

 

Throughout her career, Professor Lar has demonstrated a strong commitment to research, teaching, and administration. She has conducted groundbreaking research on HIV, malaria, schistosomiasis, and antimicrobial resistance, and has received funding from prestigious institutions such as the NIH-Fogarty, TETFUND, and ACU.

In addition to her academic achievements, Professor Lar has also held various administrative positions, including Acting Director of Linkages at the University of Jos, Senate Representative, and Governing Council Member of Plateubu State University and Plateubu State Polytechnic. She is also the Secretary General of the West African Research Management Association (WARMA).

 

Professor Lar's appointment as Acting Vice Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University is a testament to her exceptional leadership skills and academic excellence. Her tenure is expected to bring significant positive changes to the university.
