Professor Tomola Obamuyi Assumes Office as AAUA's 7th Substantive Vice-Chancellor, Unveils Agenda

Former Dean of the School of Management Technology at Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Tomola Obamuyi, has been inaugurated as the seventh substantive Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA).

Former Dean of the School of Management Technology at Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Tomola Obamuyi, has been inaugurated as the seventh substantive Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA).

Professor Obamuyi was officially inaugurated on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, and used his inaugural address to unveil his administration's agenda, pledging to provide purposeful, transparent and inclusive leadership while building on the achievements of his predecessors to position the university for greater national and international relevance.

The new Vice-Chancellor outlined the key priorities of his administration, including:

  • Promoting innovative research
  • Driving digital transformation
  • Enhancing quality assurance
  • Investing in staff development
  • Improving students' learning experience
  • Expanding industry partnerships

Professor Obamuyi called on staff and students to embrace unity, discipline, innovation and teamwork, stressing that sustainable institutional development requires collective commitment and shared responsibility.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the university's research culture, promoting entrepreneurship and innovation, expanding internally generated revenue, deepening community engagement and producing graduates equipped for leadership and national development.

Describing education as the foundation of societal transformation, the Vice-Chancellor assured stakeholders that his administration would pursue policies that promote excellence, accountability and continuous improvement in line with global standards.

Professor Obamuyi expressed appreciation to the Visitor to the university and Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the Governing Council, Senate and the university community for the confidence reposed in him.

In a goodwill message, the Vice-Chancellor of FUTA, Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, congratulated Professor Obamuyi on his inauguration, describing his appointment as a proud moment for FUTA and a significant gain for Nigeria's academic community.

Professor Oladiji described him as a dependable academic, accomplished administrator and exemplary scholar whose distinguished service in several strategic positions at FUTA prepared him for the responsibility of leading AAUA.

She also acknowledged his leadership as Chairman of the Colloquium of Higher Institutions in Ondo State, noting that it reflects his commitment to advancing higher education through collaboration and shared vision.

According to her, Professor Obamuyi's integrity, global outlook, administrative experience and commitment to excellence would usher AAUA into a new era of innovation, academic distinction, impactful research and sustainable institutional development.

She further noted that his appointment would strengthen the long-standing relationship between FUTA and AAUA through deeper collaboration in teaching, learning, research, innovation and capacity development.

"I have no doubt that, under your stewardship, Adekunle Ajasin University will attain greater academic heights, strengthen its global reputation and fulfil its mandate as a leading institution of higher learning," Professor Oladiji said.

Professor Obamuyi, a Professor of Banking and Finance, has over three decades of experience in teaching, research and academic administration. Before his appointment, he served as Dean of the School of Management Technology, Director of the Advancement Centre at FUTA, and Chairman of the Colloquium of Tertiary Institutions in Ondo State, where he made significant contributions to academic development, institutional advancement and strategic partnerships.
