UDUS-LAWSAN Ministry of Justice Visits Ministry of Justice, Sokoto State

In the early hours of Thursday, 11th April, 2024, a group of law students from Law Students' Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN) Ministry of Justice, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) chapter paid a visit to the Ministry of Justice, Sokoto State as part of academic learning and for familiarization.

The visitation, which was led by the attorney general of Lawsan ministry of justice, Zakari khalid and accompanied by Lawsan president, Hamza Diya'ulHaq was aimed to widen the knowledge of law students in understanding of the internal workings of the Ministry, its roles and powers in the administration of justice in the country.

On arrival at the ministry, the students were wholeheartedly received by the attorney general, Hon. Muhammad Binji who is also the commissioner of Justice, Sokoto State together with the ministry's official.

The Attorney General briefed them on the various departments of the ministry and also the functions of the Attorney general by making reference to the provision of section 195 of the Nigeria Constitution that provides for the office of the Attorney General of a state.

In his words, "Attorney general's office is a very significant office in the State and apart from instituting and undertaking criminal proceedings against any person in respect of any offence alleged to have been committed by a person there are some hidden functions who are not known to outsiders such as Advising the Government of the State on legal matters, AG is also the Chief Law Officer of the Government and also represents the Government of the State in legal proceedings."

He further stated that, the ministry is not a Tourism Center because there's no beautiful things to see, no magnificent structure but an Intellectual Center, the group have been shown around the ministry facility.

He concluded by commending the efforts of the Lawsan Attorney general for the visit and look forward to seeing many of them in future in the legal profession.

The visit is an unforgettable experience for the law students, who have gained understandings of the Ministry's functions and the workings of the justice system. The students expressed their gratitude to the Ministry's officials for their warm hospitality and and their presentations.

Abdullahi Abdullateef Akalanbi said, "The visit to the Ministry of Justice was an eye-opening experience which has widened my knowledge and understanding of the legal system. I am grateful for being among those opportined to learn more from an experienced legal professional."
