UI Students of Technology Excel at the Nigerian Engineering Olympiad
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, has commended five students of the University who excelled at the national Nigerian Engineering Olympiad (NEO).
He gave this commendation while receiving the five students of the Faculty of Technology who had represented the university at the olympiad and emerged in the second position.
Professor Adebowale reiterated that the university was established on a legacy of excellence, integrity and service adding that the achievement of the students reflected this ideal.
He urged them to see the feat as a beginning and stressed the need to strive for greater heights in the pursuit of their scholarly goals.
The Vice-Chancellor congratulated the students on behalf of the university, telling them that they are the pride of the university and a proof that UI is a hub that produces greatness.
He commended Dr J. O. Labiran of the Department of Civil Engineering who coached the team, appreciating his mentorship and guidance.
The Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, Professor Gbenga Matthew Ayininuola disclosed that the Nigerian Engineering Olympiad is a national competition aimed at promoting engineering innovation and accelerating the commercialization of locally developed technologies.

He informed the Vice-Chancellor that the five-man team made up of students from three Departments in the Faculty of Technology of the university, came second at the grand finale.
The students were:
1. Victoria Omonigbo (Department of Civil Engineering)
2. David Nssien (Department of Mechanical Engineering)
3. Samuel Tijesunimi Moses (Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering)
4. Anastecia Obiora (Department of Civil Engineering), and
5. Marvelous Dare (Department of Civil Engineering)
The team won a 30 million naira start up grant and an institutional award of 75 million naira worth of equipment to be provided in the faculty.
