The Students' Union Government (SUG) of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC) has officially withdrawn the controversial Biochemistry course registration fee previously demanded from 200 and 300-level students in the College of Medicine.

The Students' Union Government (SUG) of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC) has officially withdrawn the controversial Biochemistry course registration fee previously demanded from 200 and 300-level students in the College of Medicine.

In a circular signed by SUG President Comr. Kelvin Onah M, Secretary General Comr. Okolo Bethel, and His Excellency Comr. Jumbo Princess Somezikam, the union confirmed that a review of the payment structure revealed the fee was already included in the approved tuition.

Following discussions with the Department of Biochemistry, the department has been formally notified that students are no longer required to make any separate payment for Biochemistry registration, except for the ₦5,000 fee for the Biochemistry Manual.

The SUG also assured students who had already paid the redundant fee that refunds will be processed, with further details to be communicated in due course.

This decision has been widely welcomed as a significant success for student advocacy at UNEC.
