The University of Lagos (UNILAG) International Week 2025 gained momentum on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, as Vice-Chancellor Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS, received a distinguished delegation at her Senate House office on the 11th floor.

The delegation, accompanied by Professor Ismail A. Ibraheem, Director of the Office of International Relations, Partnerships & Prospects (IRPP), included Dr. Bunmi Ajala, representing the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Mr. Bosun Tijani; Mr. Emmanuel Lubanzadio, Africa Lead at OpenAI; Professor Adenike Boyo, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of Lagos State University; representatives of TETFUND; partners from international academic institutions; and key figures from Nigeria’s innovation and digital ecosystem.

Professor Ibraheem highlighted the visit as evidence of UNILAG’s rising profile as a continental leader in digital transformation. He announced the planned launch of Africa’s first OpenAI Academy at UNILAG, facilitated by Mr. Lubanzadio, positioning the University as a central hub for AI advancement and capacity building across the continent.
Professor Ogunsola welcomed the delegation and underscored the importance of Africa actively shaping its digital future. She emphasized that AI offers the continent an opportunity to catch up technologically while asserting its voice globally: “Artificial Intelligence represents a deeper opportunity; a chance for Africa to catch up without the burden of re-inventing the wheel. More importantly, it offers a path to re-claim and re-define Africa’s voice in the global digital dialogue.”

The courtesy visit concluded with a ceremonial group photograph before the delegation proceeded to the J.F. Ade. Ajayi (Main) Auditorium for the formal Opening Ceremony of the 5th UNILAG International Week.
