UNIMAID Appoints New Vice Chancellor

Professor Mohammed Mele has been appointed the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), effective September 18, 2024. His appointment was approved by the university's governing council following the recommendation of the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board.

The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has announced the appointment of Professor Mohammed Mele as its new substantive Vice Chancellor. His appointment, approved by the institution’s governing council, was confirmed on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, following the recommendation of the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board.

In a statement issued by UNIMAID's registrar, Ahmed Lawan, it was revealed that Professor Mele was selected from a pool of four candidates who were interviewed for the position. His vast academic and administrative experience, along with his impressive leadership credentials, made him the ideal candidate for the role.

Professor Mele, a distinguished scholar in English Language and Linguistics, has dedicated over two decades to teaching and administration at the University of Maiduguri. Prior to this appointment, he served as the institution's acting Vice Chancellor and held several key positions, including Deputy Vice Chancellor for Central Administration.

A native of Mafa Local Government Area in Borno State, Professor Mele's leadership is expected to usher in a new era for UNIMAID as the university continues to navigate ongoing challenges, including the flood crisis affecting the region.

The appointment took effect immediately on September 18, 2024.
