University of Jos Student Union Suspends School Fees Payment Amid Fee Hike Protest

The Student Union Government (SUG) of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) has suspended school fees payment for all 100-level students, citing an unjustifiable increase in fees. The SUG condemned the sharp rise in fees from ₦130,000 to ₦200,000, excluding an additional ₦30,000 for acceptance fees.

 

The union deemed this increase overwhelming for students and their families, prompting a series of actions:

- Withholding school fees payments until negotiations with the university management conclude

- Wearing black attire and collecting "Solidarity Tags" as a sign of solidarity

- Suspending departmental, faculty, and SUG dues collection until further notice

The SUG remains committed to engaging the university management in discussions but warned of further actions if a reasonable resolution is not reached. The union expressed deep concerns over recurring fee increments, emphasizing the financial burden on students and their families.

 

Returning students are urged to join the movement by withholding their school fees payments. The SUG vowed to escalate actions if the issue remains unresolved, reaffirming their determination to fight for students' rights at UNIJOS.
