The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has issued a stern warning to staff members engaged in unauthorized campaigns for positions within the institution’s Governing Council.

This directive was conveyed in a statement signed by Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, Special Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor (Information and Public Relations), and circulated to journalists in Awka on Saturday.

The statement specifically advised that any ongoing campaigns for the election of four members from the University Senate, two from the Congregation, and one from the Convocation should cease immediately. The university management has expressed concern over the premature and unauthorized campaigns being conducted by certain staff members ahead of the Governing Council elections.

“The university management has become aware that certain staff members have begun unauthorized campaigns for the upcoming Governing Council elections,” the statement read. It further emphasized the administration’s strong disapproval of public campaigns by individuals seeking to fill vacant positions on the University Council.

The statement also highlighted the unauthorized activities, revealing that some individuals have been creating WhatsApp groups and engaging in other forms of public mobilization, actions which are strictly prohibited by the university.

“The university management unequivocally condemns these actions and the activities of those seeking to undermine the peace of the university,” the statement declared.

“We urge all concerned to desist from these activities immediately. The university is committed to ensuring a transparent and orderly process for the election of Council members, adhering to established procedures. Any attempts to influence or manipulate this process, including unauthorized campaigning, will not be tolerated,” the statement continued.
