The Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board, led by Executive Secretary Professor Yahya Saleh Ibrahim, conducted a physical verification exercise for local scholarships at Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria. This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure that deserving students across Kaduna State have equal access to educational opportunities.
The verification exercise aligns with His Excellency Senator Mal Uba Sani's unwavering commitment to providing equitable educational support. The Governor's dedication is focused on ensuring that all students, irrespective of their status, physical disabilities, or other challenges, can benefit from the scholarship program.
During his address at the event, Professor Yahya Saleh Ibrahim highlighted a significant reform in the scholarship process. Previously, the requirement for tax clearance certificates posed a major obstacle for many students, particularly those from low-income and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Recognizing the detrimental impact of this requirement, Governor Mal Uba Sani instructed the Scholarship and Loans Board to remove the tax clearance mandate, effectively eliminating a key barrier to scholarship access.
Professor Yahya further clarified that while essay writing remains a component of the scholarship program, it is no longer a prerequisite for receiving an award. Instead, essays are now used as a tool to evaluate students' language proficiency and report writing skills, helping to identify areas for improvement rather than serving as a criterion for award eligibility.
This reform reflects the Governor's commitment to removing obstacles and ensuring that every student has a fair chance to access educational support. The Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board’s ongoing efforts are instrumental in fostering an inclusive educational environment and empowering students across the state.
The physical verification exercise at Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic underscores the state's dedication to upholding transparency and fairness in the scholarship distribution process, ensuring that the program effectively reaches those who need it most.
