Akawe Torkula Polytechnic and Sinoki Group of Companies have signed a partnership to enhance technical training and research, including student internships in China.

In a bid to establish Akawe Torkula Polytechnic, Makurdi as a hub for technical education in Nigeria, the institution has entered into a strategic partnership with the Chinese-owned Sinoki Group of Companies. The collaboration, aimed at enhancing technical skills and vocational training, will include technician training, joint research, and exchange programs to facilitate the transfer of Chinese technology to Nigeria.

This development was disclosed on September 17th, 2024, by the Rector of Akawe Torkula Polytechnic, Dr. Martins Agena, during a meeting with the Polytechnic's management, the Special Adviser to the Benue State Government on International Investment, Hon. Alex Addingi, and the Managing Director of Sinoki Group, Mr. Hanchen Lui. Dr. Agena emphasized that the partnership is part of the Benue State government’s broader vision, under Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, to transform the polytechnic into a center of technical education that responds to the nation’s industrial needs.

“The Benue State government is fully aware and supportive of this partnership, which will provide our students with valuable skills through internships in China,” Dr. Agena noted. The collaboration also aims to improve the institution’s infrastructure, manpower, and equipment.

Hon. Alex Addingi praised the initiative, emphasizing that it aligns with the state's strategy for capacity building through scholar exchanges, joint research projects, and cross-cultural programs. He expressed confidence in the partnership’s potential to diversify the academic experience at the polytechnic.

Mr. Hanchen Lui, Managing Director of Sinoki Group, highlighted the importance of this collaboration, noting that a skilled workforce is a key challenge for Nigerian industries. The partnership aims to address this gap by training students to meet the technical demands of industries across Nigeria and beyond.

The meeting was attended by other senior management staff of Akawe Torkula Polytechnic, including Mrs. Veronica Makurdi (Acting Registrar), Mr. Ephraim Aboh (Acting Bursar), Dr. Grace Chigyo (Acting Deputy Rector, Academics), and Mr. Benjamin Antse (Acting Librarian).
