KIU Welcomes HRORBN Inspection and Accreditation Team for Health Information Management Programme

Kashim Ibrahim University, KIU, has welcomed members of the Inspection and Accreditation Team from the Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria, HRORBN, for an assessment of the Department of Health Information Management.

The delegation, led by Dr. Adio A. Abdulrazaq, said the team was at the university on a national assignment to assess the Department of Health Information Management and evaluate its facilities, academic resources and readiness for accreditation.

Receiving the delegation, the Vice-Chancellor of Kashim Ibrahim University, Professor Babagana Gutti, expressed his appreciation for the team's visit and assured them of the university's full cooperation throughout the exercise.

Professor Gutti said the university would carefully consider and promptly act on all observations and recommendations made by the accreditation team in order to improve its standards and ensure the successful accreditation of the programme.

The Vice-Chancellor explained that KIU was not competing with any other university but was focused on developing at its own pace while maintaining high standards.

"We are not competing with anybody. We are the last state university established in Nigeria, but we are moving at our own pace. We are open to comments, criticisms and objective observations that will help us improve our standards and secure this accreditation," Professor Gutti said.

At the end of the exercise, Dr. Abdulrazaq commended the Vice-Chancellor and his management team for their commitment to the development of the Department of Health Information Management.

He noted that the level of attention and commitment given to the department by the Vice-Chancellor was evident in the progress recorded so far.

"The commitment you are showing to this department has produced visible results and impact. It is like your baby; you are nurturing both the department and the university. Your work is commendable," Dr. Abdulrazaq stated.

Dr. Abdulrazaq also encouraged the university management to address the observations raised by the team and sustain its efforts towards strengthening the department.

As part of his contribution to the development of the university, the HRORBN team leader presented an offline e-book to the Vice-Chancellor for use in supporting academic and professional development within the university and the department.

In his response, Professor Gutti thanked the delegation for the commendation and said the university management would immediately begin working on the observations presented during the accreditation exercise.

He directed the University Librarian and the Director of Procurement to take immediate action on the relevant recommendations and ensure a swift response to the identified areas requiring attention.

The Vice-Chancellor further disclosed that the university's Teaching Hospital would soon be commissioned to support healthcare delivery, medical education and professional training for the benefit of the university and Borno State.

According to Professor Gutti, the Teaching Hospital is being developed with modern infrastructure and equipment to provide a strong platform for clinical training and healthcare services.

He reiterated the commitment of his administration to providing the necessary facilities and creating an enabling environment for the successful development of health-related programmes at Kashim Ibrahim University.

The accreditation exercise is part of the university's continued efforts to maintain academic standards, strengthen professional programmes and provide quality education and training for its students.
