The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, has commended the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Women Association (NAUWA) Cooperative Society for its bakery initiative, describing it as a foresighted venture capable of enhancing the university community through the provision of premium-quality bread.

The Vice-Chancellor gave the commendation when the NAUWA Cooperative Society paid him a courtesy visit in his office on March 9, 2026. He emphasized that maintaining high standards in both product quality and pricing would be essential in attracting and retaining customers, while also strengthening the cooperative’s impact within the university.

Earlier, the delegation led by the Chairperson of the Cooperative Society, Gladys Ahaneku, said the visit was to formally introduce the Vice-Chancellor to the cooperative’s activities on campus, particularly its bakery which produces high-quality bread certified with a National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) registration number.

Prof. Ahaneku explained that the bakery is committed to producing hygienically prepared and nutritionally valuable bread products. According to her, the initiative not only serves members of the university community but also contributes positively to the image of Nnamdi Azikiwe University. She therefore appealed for continued support towards sustaining and expanding the cooperative’s bakery operations.

Also present during the courtesy visit were I. A. Ekwealor, Chinyere Stella Okunna, and Chito Ekwealor, among other members of the association.

Highlights of the visit included the presentation of complimentary loaves of bread produced by the NAUWA Cooperative Bakery to members of the Vice-Chancellor’s office and other visitors present at the time.
