The Student Union Government of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has provided an update on the case of a female student who was reportedly injured by a lecturer.

According to reports, the lecturer identified as OgochukwuUkwueze allegedly smashed the head of the first-year student during a lecture.

According to OnweMarcellinus, the SUG Director of Information, disciplinary measures were taken against the lecturer.

"The University Management, in line with its zero-tolerance for misconduct and indiscipline, has taken disciplinary measures against the lecturer involved in the incident," the statement read.

The statement further emphasized the university's commitment on safety of its students, stating that the incident was an isolated one and not reflective of the university's culture.

"The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, does not condone any form of brutality or violence against students. We have put in place measures to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future," the statement added.

The student union government also called on students to report any cases of misconduct or indiscipline to the appropriate authorities.

It can be recalled that the incident, which occurred on February 28, 2023, had sparked outrage among students and members of the public.

The update by the student union government provides some relief to concerned individuals and serves as a reminder of the need for a safe and conducive learning environment for all students.
