FUAMB, ADSU Forge Agribusiness Alliance To Boost Food Security In North East

The Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi, FUAMB, and Adamawa State University, ADSU, Mubi, have agreed to collaborate on agribusiness initiatives aimed at strengthening food security and socio-economic development in the North East.

The Chairman/Coordinator of the Agribusiness Centre and the Sub-Coordinator, Prof. Mohammed Yusuf Hamid and Prof. Jonah Peter of ADSU, paid a working visit to the Director of Entrepreneurship/HOD Fisheries and Aquaculture, FUAMB, Prof. Mbilari Mshelia.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss areas of collaboration in agribusiness for food security and socio-economic development of the society.

During the visit, the delegation indicated interest in the practical Aquaponics system being carried out in the Department. They commended the effort of the University and the department, and noted that such practical innovation aligns with the institution’s commitment to produce graduates with practical skills for self-sufficiency and agricultural empowerment in the region.

The areas of collaboration identified include the establishment of a Centre of Pastures Hub in the North East part of the country. The proposed hub is expected to serve as a center for improved pasture production, fodder development, and livestock feed systems to support pastoralists and agribusiness investors.

In addition to the Pastures Hub, both parties also discussed other collaborations in agribusiness. These include technology transfer, joint research, training, and commercialization of practical agricultural innovations that will benefit students, farmers, and the wider community.

The visit marks an important step toward strengthening inter-institutional partnership and expanding practical agribusiness initiatives within and beyond Adamawa State.
