Nigeria has reaffirmed its support for the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) and its mission to advance climate science, research and capacity development across West Africa.

The Executive Director of WASCAL, Prof. Emmanuel Wendsongré Ramdé, paid a courtesy visit to Nigeria’s Minister of Environment, Hon. Balarabe Abbas Lawal, in Abuja.

Prof. Ramdé was accompanied by the Chair of the WASCAL Governing Board, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba; Director of the WASCAL Graduate Programme at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Appollonia Okhimamhe; and Director of the WASCAL Graduate Programme at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof. Ifeoluwa Balogun.

During the meeting, the Minister commended WASCAL for its achievements in Nigeria and across the West African region and expressed the Federal Government of Nigeria’s appreciation to WASCAL and the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) for their continued support.

The engagement highlighted opportunities to further strengthen cooperation in climate research, capacity building, innovation and sustainable development.
