"Your Will, Determination will Take You Far in Life," ACU VC Tells Freshers at Orientation

The newly admitted students of Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, have been charged to hold firmly to their will and determination in life as key drivers to success.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebunoluwa Oduwole, made the charge while addressing the new intakes during the orientation programme held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, to acquaint the freshers with the rules and regulations guiding the university.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, "You need your will; you need your determination. It is your will, not your course, that will make you." Giving a motherly advice, Prof. Oduwole tasked the students on hard work, diligence, obeying rules and regulations, and being resilient.

Emphasising the university's role in loco parentis (acting in place of parents) while students are on campus, Prof. Oduwole charged the students to see themselves as adults and stop crying to their parents over flimsy matters.

Speaking further on experiencing the university, she said, "You're expected to pass through the university, and the university through you." She however stressed the compulsory need for the students to attend all academic and spiritual activities.

The freshers were also asked to differentiate between appearance and reality, engage each other in meaningful interactions, and study their course outlines as they attend their lectures.

The orientation featured various speakers who addressed the students on topics germane to their advancement and finishing their studies in character and learning as godly intellectuals.
