18-Year-Old Achieves Historic Milestone as First Black Male Valedictorian at Oakland High School

Ahmed Muhammad, an 18-year-old student from Oakland, California, has made history by becoming the first Black male valedictorian at Oakland Technical High School. Muhammad achieved the top academic ranking in his class with a remarkable cumulative GPA of 4.73. Notably, he is not just an exceptional student but also an athlete, playing varsity basketball for the Bulldogs.

The bright student received acceptance letters from all 11 schools he applied to, including prestigious institutions like Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, UC Berkeley, and Columbia University. Although he has not yet made a final decision, Muhammad plans to major in both engineering and computer science.
As the first member of his family to attend college, Muhammad wishes to set an example for other young individuals from similar backgrounds, hoping that his valedictorian achievement will inspire them to strive for academic success. He stated that he hopes to see more students like him achieve similar milestones.
