Abia State University (ABSU) celebrated the inauguration of its Student Union Government (SUG) executives for the 2023/2024 academic year on April 19, 2024. The event marked the start of the new administration, led by President Okezie Almond Kezirim, and took place ahead of students' return to campus for the new academic session.
The inauguration ceremony, which commenced at noon, was attended by several high-ranking university officials and distinguished guests. Vice Chancellor, Professor Onyemachi M. Ogbulu, was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Admin, Prof. Ogbonna Onuoha. Other notable attendees included the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Prof. Godwin Emezue, and the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Levi Nwokeocha.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor commended the previous SUG executives for their dedication and hard work. He urged the newly inaugurated leaders to prioritize dialogue and effective communication in resolving conflicts, emphasizing the adverse outcomes of violence and force. Prof. Ogbulu encouraged the new SUG to build on the solid foundation laid by their predecessors and guide the student body toward constructive and positive goals.

The event also featured a handover speech by the immediate past union president, who highlighted his administration's achievements. The newly inaugurated SUG executives took their oaths of office and were decorated by university officials, including the Deputy Vice Chancellor and the Dean of Student Affairs.
With the new SUG administration officially in place, President Okezie Almond Kezirim is poised to lead the student union toward a successful year, promising a proactive and collaborative approach to student governance.
