ABU Awards Scholarships to 107 Students

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria has awarded scholarships to 107 students, including foreign, indigent, and students with special needs. The program consists of 49 postgraduate foreign students, 42 undergraduate foreign students, 10 Nigerian students, and six undergraduate indigent students.

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria has awarded scholarships to 107 students, including foreign, indigent, and students with special needs. This initiative reflects the university's commitment to inclusivity and support for the most vulnerable members of its academic community.

According to a statement from Auwalu Umar, Director of the Public Affairs Directorate, the scholarship program includes 49 postgraduate foreign students, 42 undergraduate foreign students, 10 Nigerian students, and six undergraduate indigent students.

During the award presentation, Prof. Kabiru Bala, Vice-Chancellor of ABU, emphasized that the university aims to uphold the vision of its founding fathers by providing opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds. The Vice-Chancellor, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics, Prof. Raymond Bako, noted that the scholarship is designed to assist students in various ways rather than as direct cash payments.

"There is always ability in disability; the sky is the starting point for all students with special needs," said Prof. Bako, encouraging scholarship recipients to excel in their studies. He also urged foreign students to represent the university positively in their home countries after completing their education.

Dr. Sa’adatu Muhammad-Makarfi, Director of the Counseling and Human Development Center, shared that both undergraduate and postgraduate foreign students will pay the same fees as their indigenous counterparts to alleviate financial burdens amid the current economic challenges in Nigeria. For students with special needs, the university has covered full tuition fees and accommodation, assisting those who had already paid their tuition.

Mustapha Yahaya, President of Students with Special Needs, expressed gratitude for the scholarship program, highlighting the plight of over 15 students with disabilities in the university. He appealed for the extension of the scholarship to additional deserving students.

This initiative by Ahmadu Bello University underscores its dedication to providing equitable educational opportunities and fostering an inclusive academic environment.
