ABU Hosts NAERLS Meeting on Climate-Resilient Farming
Speaking at the opening ceremony on Monday, 2nd December 2024, NAERLS Executive Director, Prof. Yusuf A. Sani, highlighted the need for climate-resilient solutions to address challenges facing Nigerian farmers.
Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, is hosting the 2024 National Agricultural Extension Review and Planning Meeting organized by the National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS).
Speaking at the opening ceremony on Monday, 2nd December 2024, NAERLS Executive Director, Prof. Yusuf A. Sani, highlighted the need for climate-resilient solutions to address challenges facing Nigerian farmers. Themed “The Climate Change: Rethinking Agricultural Research, Extension, and Cropping Patterns in Nigeria,” the three-day event focuses on sustainable agricultural practices.
Prof. Yusuf emphasized the importance of research on climate-resilient crops, training extension workers in modern techniques, and implementing strategies like intercropping, agroforestry, and efficient water management. He called for robust partnerships and increased funding to support farmers against climate risks.
The meeting is expected to provide actionable plans to strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
