ABU IAR Kicks Off 2025 Annual Research Review and Planning Meeting

The Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR) at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, has commenced its 2025 annual research review and planning meeting.

The two-day event, themed "Advancing Agricultural Innovation for Food Security and Economic Prosperity," aims to align research with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Ahmadu Bello University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, emphasized the critical role of agricultural research in addressing climate challenges, population growth, and food security. He noted that IAR has been instrumental in developing improved crop varieties, such as maize, groundnut, cowpea, and sorghum, which have benefited Nigeria and neighboring countries.

IAR Executive Director, Prof. Ado Yusuf, highlighted the institute's progress in agricultural research and innovation, including over 180 research projects and 32 prioritized activities. He also announced plans to expand the dam at the IAR Samaru research farm to support irrigation and increase food production.

The event features keynote speeches, goodwill messages, and participation from researchers, farmers, stakeholders, and development partners. The meeting underscores the importance of collaboration and funding in advancing agricultural research and innovation.
