Adeleke Advocates Reform of NYSC

Governor Ademola Adeleke has called for an immediate reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to establish an institutionalized Public-Private Partnership in the management of the service.
During a visit by the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Yushau Dogara Ahmed, to his office in Osogbo, the state capital, Adeleke proposed restructuring the NYSC to alleviate the financial burden on the public sector, considering the current state of the nation's economy.
The governor emphasized the importance of reforming the NYSC, describing it as a valuable asset for the Nigerian state. He suggested expanding private sector involvement through either a review of the enabling act or the implementation of federal reform measures.
"The present structure appears unsustainable considering the state of the national economy. We need to restructure the service to reduce the burden of financing on the public sector," Adeleke stated.

Brigadier General Yushau Dogara Ahmed, who previously served as a corps member in Osun state, commended the state government for its support to the NYSC. He requested the state government's assistance in constructing a state secretariat and expanding orientation facilities.
This call for reform comes amidst discussions about the viability and sustainability of the NYSC in its current form, reflecting broader concerns about the economic challenges facing the country.
