The Counselling Unit of Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN) hosted a vital mental wellness session on Friday, 6th February 2026, aimed at equipping the university’s sports personnel with tools for emotional and physical resilience.
Held at the University Conference Hall, the event, themed "Mental Fitness Beyond the Field," focused on the unique psychological pressures faced by athletes and sports administrators.
The programme featured technical presentations from experts within the ADUN Counselling Unit:
Stress Management: Mr. Adah Peter C. provided practical strategies for early stress detection and the adoption of healthy coping mechanisms to maintain peak performance.
Mental Fitness & Longevity: Mr. Edward Stephen Ozokede, the Acting Head of the Counselling Unit, explored the critical distinction between stress and burnout. He emphasized that mental fitness is as essential as physical training for career longevity and emotional balance.
The session saw full attendance from both the Sports and Counselling Units. Mr. Anye Nder Tavershima, representing the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, Professor Terna Agba, lauded the initiative as a proactive step toward holistic staff and student-athlete development.
The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session where participants shared personal experiences regarding the high-pressure environment of competitive university sports. This initiative reaffirms the commitment of Admiralty University to fostering a supportive environment that balances academic, physical, and mental excellence.
