Prof. Benjamin Kefas Appointed Substantive Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Wukari
The Governing Council of the Federal University Wukari (FUW) has officially announced the appointment of Professor Benjamin Kefas as the new Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
The landmark announcement was made on Monday, 9th February 2026, by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Lysa Ade Bello, following an emergency meeting held at the Secretariat of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU) in Abuja.
Professor Kefas is set to serve a single, non-renewable term of five years, as stipulated by the university's governing laws. His appointment follows a rigorous selection process aimed at identifying a leader capable of advancing the university's academic and infrastructural mandate.
The appointment has been met with widespread optimism within the academic community. The Vice-Chancellor of Taraba State University (TSU), Professor Sunday Paul Bako, was among the first to congratulate the new appointee, describing the selection as a "testament to academic excellence and leadership capacity."
Professor Kefas takes the helm at a pivotal time for Federal University Wukari, with expectations high for:
Academic Expansion: The introduction of new specialized faculties and research centres.
Infrastructural Development: Completion of ongoing projects funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
Global Ranking: Enhancing the university's visibility through international research collaborations.
Professor Kefas succeeds the outgoing leadership, carrying the responsibility of steering the institution toward its goal of becoming a world-class centre for learning and research.
