Myschoolnews reports the members of staff employed in 2013

engaged in the exercise geared towards making the university one of the most eco-friendly and beautiful campuses in the country.

While speaking during a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Elom, as part of a 2-day events earmarked to celebrate a decade in the university, Mr. Chimezie Egwu of the Bursary Department noted that the land of Ikwo, nay AE-FUNAI has been favourable to the staff, hence the need to mark their 10 years in the institution with tree planting and a visit to the motherless babies home, to thank God for His infinite mercies.

He stressed that the tree planting was part of their contributions to the university, which has given them opportunities to excel in their respective professions and offices, adding that most of the staff employed in 2013 were now occupying strategic positions in the university based on their competence, hard work, dedication and loyalty to the institution.

Giving credence to the competence and dedication of the class of 2013 staff, the Director of Health Services, Dr. Henry Aloh, who also was employed in the same year, noted that the staff were among the best in the annals of the university because they came in through a very transparent selection process that involved written and oral interviews.

He thereafter stated that it was not surprising that most of them are performing at optimal level in their various offices.

Commending the staff for their resourcefulness in the last 10 years, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elom noted that he had worked with most of them in the various offices he occupied before assuming the position of a Vice-Chancellor, adding that the class of 2013 is one of the best the university has had since its establishment.

He also commended them for embarking on tree planting to mark their 10 years in the university, adding that since he assumed office on 11th February, 2021, over 20, 000 timber trees have been planted in the university.

He maintained that through the Camus-Green Initiative, the university is becoming more beautiful through the provision of green shades and lawns across the campus even as the trees are also contributing to the mitigation of the adverse effects of climate change.

The Vice-Chancellor further stated that on maturity, the timber trees would generate enormous revenue for the university.

Highlights of the celebration included planting of trees at the AE-FUNAI Green Village, a visit to the motherless babies home in Abakaliki and a staff get-to-getter to unwind and bond by reminiscing on the past decade and projecting for the future.
