ABU’s University Organised Lectures Committee gets new Chair, members
The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Kabiru Bala, has approved the appointment of Prof. Jacob Jari of the Department of Fine Arts as Chairman of the University Organised Lectures Committee.

By the appointment, Prof. Jari is taking over from Prof. Bala Bello Muhammad – Dewu of the Centre for Energy Research and Training (CERT) who had been in the saddle as Chairman of the Committee for well over 10 years.
A letter conveying the appointment dated 8th January, 2024 reappointed Dr. Ibrahim Jimoh of the Department of Mass Communication as member of the Committee.
The letter also named Prof. Modupeola O. A. S. Samaila, Department of Pathology (Morbid Anatomy); Prof. Hamza A. Yusuf, Department of Public Administration; and Dr. Basira Yahaya, Department of Computer Engineering, as members.
The Director, Public Affairs Directorate, Malam Auwalu Umar, who was also appointed as member, will double as Secretary of the Committee.

The Committee is mandated to, among others, recommend to the Vice-Chancellor a schedule for Public and Inaugural Lectures, including the lecturers, topics, chairmen, and budgets. It is also expected to liaise between the University and lecturers as may be approved by the Vice-Chancellor.
The Committee is equally charged with the responsibility of arranging for the production and circulation of invitations, programmes, and lecture texts, as well as arranging for suitable venue and ancillary equipment and streaming for the lectures.
They are to also report to the Vice-Chancellor on the Committee’s activities biannually, and to advise the Vice-Chancellor on any matter incidental to the foregoing terms of reference.
