FUNAAB VC Commends Efforts To Establish Staff Welfare Association

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, has commended the initiative to establish an association dedicated to promoting the welfare, security and collective interests of members who have contributed significantly to the growth and development of the University.

The commendation was made on Monday, August 18, 2026, through the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Prof. Olawale Dairo, who represented the Vice-Chancellor at the inauguration of the newly elected executive members of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme, NUPCPS, FUNAAB Chapter.

Prof. Kehinde noted that, having been part of the University Community for several years, he had witnessed the immense contributions, dedication and wealth of experience accumulated by staff at various levels of the institution, stressing the need for appropriate structures to protect their welfare and security after years of service.

According to him, a strong and representative association would provide members with a collective platform to articulate their needs and engage relevant authorities, noting that an organised association would have a stronger voice.

The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the value of members' experience, saying that their years of service had equipped them with knowledge that could benefit younger members of the University Community. He congratulated the organisers and members, describing the initiative as a commendable achievement capable of promoting welfare, unity and collective interests.

Speaking at the ceremony, the State Chairman of NUPCPS, Comrade Joseph Adewoyin, commended the Vice-Chancellor for his support for retirees and prayed for God's continued blessings upon him.

Comrade Adewoyin lamented the financial difficulties confronting many retirees after decades of service, calling for a review of welfare arrangements to ensure that retirees receive their due benefits.

The NUPCPS Chairman, however, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for interventions aimed at addressing pension-related challenges, particularly the payment of outstanding pension arrears, which he said had brought relief to many retirees.

A major highlight of the event was the inauguration of the newly elected executive members entrusted with steering the affairs of the FUNAAB Chapter.

The new executives are Mr. Ramon Balogun, Chairman; Mr. Raphael Coker, Vice-Chairman; Mr. Olufemi Bamgbose, Secretary; Mrs. Atinuke Adiyeloja, Assistant Secretary; Rev. Mrs. Elizabeth Adeyemo, Treasurer; Mr. Emmanuel Akinbo, Financial Secretary; Rev. Canon Hezekiah Ogunremi, Public Relations/Welfare Officer; Evangelist David Giwa, Auditor; Mr. Gabriel Ayoola, Ex-Officio I; and Mr. Gabriel Ogunleye, Ex-Officio II.
