Ahmadu Bello University to Receive 12MW Solar Plant to Address Electricity Challenges

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has been selected to benefit from a special intervention project under the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Fund, aimed at addressing the institution's persistent electricity challenges.

 

The Rural Electricity Agency (REA) will build a 12MW solar plant as a grant to the university, which is expected to significantly enhance its operational efficiency and reduce reliance on expensive and unreliable grid power.

The project, scheduled to commence immediately and be completed by December 2025, will provide a sustainable energy solution for the university. REA will work closely with ABU to develop a sustainable energy model, ensuring reliable power supply at a minimal cost.

The Vice-Chancellor of ABU, Prof. Kabiru Bala, expressed gratitude to REA for its support and reaffirmed the university's commitment to collaborating with the agency to ensure the project's success.

 

This intervention is a significant step towards addressing the university's perennial electricity problems, which have disrupted academic, administrative, and research activities, and strained the university's limited resources.
