AKSU Vice-Chancellor Inaugurates 2025/2026 Student Union Executive
The Vice-Chancellor, Akwa Ibom State University, Prof OtoAbasi E. Akpan inaugurated the 2025/2026 Students Union Executive and Parliamentarians Monday, March 9,2026 at the Main Campus, Ikot Akpaden,Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.
The Vice-Chancellor, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Iniobong D. Umotong ,expressed gratitude to the students for the peaceful and mature approach shown during the election, urging them to focus on their studies and ensure a peaceful tenure, noting that the university’s aim is to transform them into better persons and that the transformation depends on how they conduct themselves. He emphasised collective responsibility, advising students to give maximum support, avoid squaring up with authority. "Create a good memory of your school years, ensure a vibrant students community with true purpose", he added.
In a goodwill message,the Deputy Vice- Chancellor Administration,Prof. Nkanikpo I. Ibok stressed the need for the Nigerian students to take their studies seriously. " Student politics is good but the bottom line of what you have been doing here is to come out with good grades. You are our partners in progress, avoid all distractions and focus on your major aim on campus" He advised.
The Election Committee Chairman of Akwa Ibom State University's Students' Union, Dr. Ekom E. Okpo, in his address expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and university management for the confidence reposed in him to conduct the 2025/2026 students' union elections. He thanked the Dean of Students' Affairs, security officers, ICT director, and students for their cooperation, professionalism, and support during the electoral process, which was conducted from February 23 to March 6, 2026, following an approved election timetable.
In her handing over speech, the Acting Students Union President, Comrade Goodnews Ndiok expressed appreciation to the Vice -Chancellor and the University Management for their support during their tenure.she highlighted some of their achievements during her tenure , acknowledged the collective efforts of her team and encouraged the incoming executive to build on the existing legacies.
The newly elected President of the Students' Union of AKSU, Comrade Elijah Koffi, outlined his vision for the union's future in his inaugural speech. He expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, and the entire Management Staff for their support.He Emphasised his commitment to serving the students with transparency, inclusivity, and a focus on their welfare, introducing the "RENEWED AKSU" agenda aimed at fostering unity and progress among students.
Koffi's administration promises to prioritise student leadership development, strengthen collaboration with university authorities, and ensure that every AKSU student has a voice. He acknowledged his predecessor and campaign team, and extended appreciation to notable supporters including Comrade Etiette Umanah for their guidance. With a focus on collective responsibility and peace, Koffi's leadership seeks to usher in a new era of purposeful leadership and transformative service, reflecting the aspirations of AKSU students.
In a vote of thanks, the Dean, Students Affairs Dr. Dominic Ekpo expressed gratitude to God for the successful completion of the elections;the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for their neutrality and provision of an enabling environment for a seamless electoral process.
Highpoints of the events were the administration of oath and swearing in by the Commissioner for Oath, Barr Emem Ikpatt.
