Akwa Ibom State University Issues Fraud Alert Over Fake Staff Member Impersonating the University

The management of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has alerted students, staff, and the general public about a fraudulent individual posing as a university official and soliciting payments in exchange for academic services.

In an official public disclaimer dated Monday, September 30, 2024, the university stated that the scammer, who identifies himself as "Dr. Sunny," is not a staff member of AKSU.

According to the statement issued by the Office of the Registrar, Dr. Sunny has been pretending to be part of the university’s Exams and Records Directorate, providing students with false promises of expedited final clearances, degree results, and certificates. The individual has also been demanding money for these services. The university emphasized that all such academic processes, including the following:

The memo, signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Senate, Dr. Ebi G. Eno-Ibanga, warned that any student or member of the public who transacts with the fraudulent "Dr. Sunny" does so at their own risk. The university reiterated that no fees are charged for these services and urged final-year students, graduates, and the public to follow official procedures to avoid being defrauded.

In light of this development, the university advised everyone to be cautious and vigilant, stressing the importance of conducting all academic transactions directly with authorized university offices.

The public and AKSU students have been encouraged to report any suspicious activity or interactions with individuals claiming to offer academic services for a fee. The university remains committed to ensuring transparency and protecting its students and stakeholders from fraudulent activities.
