The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, received a delegation from the Arewa Students Forum on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, at his office in the Muhammadu Buhari Senate Building.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, received a delegation from the Arewa Students Forum on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, at his office in the Muhammadu Buhari Senate Building.

Professor Mele welcomed the delegation, commending the Forum for its dedication to youth development, academic excellence, and peacebuilding across northern Nigeria. He assured the students of the University’s full support for initiatives aimed at positive student growth.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude for the award and honor conferred upon him, urging the Forum to continue sensitizing students on education, entrepreneurship, skills acquisition, and AI robotics. He emphasized dialogue and cooperation as essential tools for national development.

Addressing the Vice-Chancellor, the President of the Arewa Students Forum, Comrade Abubakar Abdullahi of Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, noted that the Forum represents students across northern Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory. He highlighted the Forum’s commitment to combating examination malpractice, cultism, and substance abuse, while promoting leadership training, career guidance, and community outreach programs, including support for internally displaced persons (IDPs).

As part of the visit, the Forum conferred on Professor Mele the title of Grand Commander of the Arewa Students Forum (GCO) in recognition of his transformative leadership and contributions to student and youth development. A certificate of honor was also presented, celebrating his dedication, courage, and positive impact on the institution and beyond.
