ASUU Sends SOS to Taraba Gov Over N1.7bn Unpaid Allowances
Dr. Mbave expressed concern that the non-payment of these allowances and salaries not only affects the commitment and dedication of academic staff but also poses a threat to industrial harmony within the institution.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University chapter, has appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas to address the issue of N1.7 billion accumulated earned academic and promotional allowances owed to university staff since 2014.
Speaking at a press conference held at the ASUU house in Taraba State University, the Chairperson of the Union, Dr. Garba Mbave, highlighted the prolonged delay in the payment of promotion arrears and withheld salaries, which has placed significant financial strain on members and eroded their morale.

Dr. Mbave expressed concern that the non-payment of these allowances and salaries not only affects the commitment and dedication of academic staff but also poses a threat to industrial harmony within the institution.
The accumulation of unpaid allowances since 2014 has exacerbated grievances among academic staff, according to Dr. Mbave, who urged the government to take decisive action to address the issue promptly.
The Union also raised concerns about the lack of a pension scheme for staff members, highlighting the challenges of financial insecurity and uncertainty faced by university employees.
While commending Governor Kefas for certain initiatives such as hostel renovations and fee reductions for undergraduate students, ASUU urged the government to prioritize the resolution of outstanding allowances and salaries, promotional arrears, and the construction of a perimeter fence for the university.
