Bayero University Kano Wins Inaugural Kanawa Basketball Championship

Bayero University Kano (BUK) has emerged as the champion of the inaugural Kanawa Basketball Championship, defeating Northwest University 49-20 in the final match.

Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, secured third place after beating Khalifa Isyaka Rabiu University of Nigeria 51-20.

The tournament, organized by the DAM Foundation, brought together universities from Kano, including federal, state, and private institutions. BUK's Chief Basketball Coach, Sunusi Shuaibu, praised the championship as a significant success, noting that it would boost basketball development in tertiary institutions.

BUK's Director of Sports, Professor Rabiu Mohammed, and Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, were commended for their support in hosting the competition. The final match was attended by distinguished guests, including representatives from the DAM Foundation, coaches, and students from various universities.

 

Professor Musa Garba Yakasai, Chairman of the NUGA Technical Committee, described the championship as a vital platform for discovering and developing young basketball talent for zonal and national competitions .
