BSUTH Management Visits MOAU Vice-Chancellor to Strengthen Institutional Healthcare and Education Ties
The management of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) on Thursday, 4th June, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the management of Moses Orshio Adasu University (MOAU), under the leadership of Professor Timothy Terseer Alabar, to congratulate him on his recent appointment as the seventh Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
Speaking during the visit, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of BSUTH, Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, said the visit was aimed at strengthening the longstanding relationship between the teaching hospital and the university. He noted that both institutions are closely linked in their shared responsibility of advancing education and healthcare delivery in Benue State, particularly in the training of medical students.
Dr. Hwande urged the Vice-Chancellor to align with the vision and mission of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, especially as they relate to the development of the university. He observed that the institution has continued to serve the people of the state for over thirty-five years and encouraged Professor Alabar to make bold and courageous decisions whenever they are in the overall interest of the university system.

The CMD also appealed to the university authorities and the College of Health Sciences to involve the teaching hospital in their recruitment processes. According to him, such collaboration would enable the hospital to contribute valuable input in critical areas affecting students' training and help prevent gaps or imbalances in the training of medical students.
He further requested that the university make its workshop available for the training of biomedical engineers at the Institute of Health Technology, BSUTH, noting that such support would help bridge existing manpower gaps in that specialized field.
Dr. Hwande disclosed that BSUTH has embarked on an aggressive transformation agenda under his leadership. He revealed that more than seventy projects have been initiated, with many already completed and others at various stages of execution. He added that efforts are ongoing to sanitize the system by addressing inefficiency and promoting productivity, stressing that he remains committed to the reform process despite challenges and criticism.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Terseer Alabar, expressed appreciation to the CMD and his team for the visit, describing it as an “executive handshake” that reflects the cordial relationship between both institutions.
Professor Alabar described Dr. Hwande as an exceptional mobilizer and visionary leader whose approach to administration is consistently proactive. He also thanked the Governor of Benue State for finding him worthy of the appointment and pledged to sustain and strengthen the existing collaboration between the university and the teaching hospital.
He appreciated Dr. Hwande for his visionary leadership, which has earned him recognition at both the state and national levels. He commended him for the good work at the hospital, especially in maintaining cleanliness and improving medical services, and promised to address all its demands for the betterment of medical students.
The CMD was accompanied on the visit by members of the hospital's top management team, including the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, Professor Terkura Michael Agbir; Mr. Daniel Pever, Director of Audit; the Director of Administration, Cynthia K. Orjime; Provost, IHT, Dr. James Ihongo; and other senior staff of the teaching hospital.
