The Caretaker Committee of the Bayero University, Kano (BUK) Students’ Union Government (SUG) has welcomed students back to campus for the new academic session while issuing a pre-election advisory urging peaceful conduct and unity ahead of the upcoming union elections.

The Caretaker Committee of the Bayero University, Kano (BUK) Students’ Union Government (SUG) has welcomed students back to campus for the new academic session while issuing a pre-election advisory urging peaceful conduct and unity ahead of the upcoming union elections.

In a memo titled “SUG-BUK Welcome Resumption & Election Awareness”, signed by the Social Director, Dist. Sen. Shitu Bello Shehu, the Committee reminded students that “election is not war” and highlighted the importance of respecting differing opinions and candidate preferences during the democratic process.

Key directives for students include:

  • Vote peacefully and responsibly.
  • Respect one another’s choices.
  • Avoid insults, threats, fights, or expressions of anger.
  • Promote dialogue and constructive engagement over violence.

The memo emphasized that “no position is worth damaging friendships, unity, or the peace of our campus,” urging students to demonstrate maturity, tolerance, and respect before, during, and after the elections. The interim leadership encapsulated this vision with the slogan: “Peaceful election, united students, better BUK.”

The advisory bears the signatures of the Committee Chairman, Sen. Ibrahim M. Giwa, and Secretary General, Sen. Bigira Simon Terkaa, and all related correspondence has been directed to the Office of the Public Relations Officer (P.R.O).

The message forms part of proactive efforts by the interim SUG leadership to maintain campus harmony and prevent electoral violence.
