DELSU VC, Prof. Andy Congratulates Newly Admitted Postgraduate Students

He did that at the Orientation Ceremony organized for the students by the Postgraduate School on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at the 750 Lecture Theatre A, in Site III of the University.
The Vice Chancellor, who was represented at the Ceremony by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Mrs. Rosemary Ngozi Okoh, said the students should count themselves lucky to be admitted to do their Postgraduate studies in DELSU, a ‘University that has distinguished itself as one of the Centres of Academic Excellence and an attraction for candidates seeking admission for Postgraduate studies.’
The Vice Chancellor informed the audience that ‘Delta State University is ranked 24th among Universities in Nigeria, 4,235th globally in 2024 and top 50% across 31 Research Topics.’ He advised the students to seize the opportunity provided by the Orientation Ceremony to acquaint themselves with the Rules and Regulations governing their stay as students in the University and adhere strictly to them to avoid falling victims of heavy sanctions associated with violation of the Rules and Regulations.

He wished them success in their academic pursuit. Earlier, the Dean of the Postgraduate School, Professor Temi Akporhonor, in his Welcome Address, also congratulated the students for being among the 1,221 students, who made it to Delta State University Postgraduate School, ‘one of the best Postgraduate Schools in Nigeria’ for their programmes.
He informed them that the Orientation Ceremony was one of the series of interactions they would be having in the course of their stay as students in Delta State University. He commended them for their peaceful conduct and advised them to remain steadfast in the pursuit of their academic dreams.

Papers were presented during the Orientation Ceremony; all aimed at acquainting the students with the dos and don’ts of the University and being high-flying Postgraduate students. The first paper on 'Rules and Regulations; Requirements for Admission and Completion of Postgraduate Programme' was presented by Professor Jonathan Tsetimi.
Other papers presented include: 'Acquaintance with and Use of the Library' by Dr. Mrs. Josephine Onowhakpor; 'Conduct and Discipline of Students' by Mr. Emmanuel O. Egheneji; 'Financial Transactions in the Postgraduate School' by Mr. Collins Omehe; 'Guidelines for External Defence and Duration of Programmes' by Mr. Moses Oghuvwu; 'Services of the University Health Centre' by Dr. Simeon Onakughotor, represented by Dr. Basil Ekuerhare and 'An Overview of the Day’s Deliberations' by Professor Temi Akporhonor.
Mr. Roland Oyibo, a Law student, on behalf of the other students thanked the Vice Chancellor for the opportunity given to them to study at the Postgraduate level in DELSU. He also appreciated the Management of the Postgraduate School for organizing the Orientation Ceremony for them; promising to make good use of all they had been taught.

Apart from the Vice Chancellor, other members of the University Community who attended the Ceremony include the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Rosemary Ngozi Okoh, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Ochuko Anomohanran, the Provost of Oleh Campus, Professor Elo Ibagere, the Registrar, Mrs. R. U. Ufiofio, represented by Mr. E. O. Okoro (Deputy Registrar, Establishments), the Bursar, Mrs. Otimeyin Ekakitie-Omajuwa, the University Librarian, Dr. Mrs. Josephine Onohwakpor, Director of Academic Planning, Professor Hilary Ijeoma Owamah, Deans and Associate Deans of Faculties, Heads of Department and staff of the Postgraduate School.
