DVC Tasks FUE Zaria Students On Discipline And Responsible Leadership At SRC Leadership Workshop

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Management Services, Federal University of Education, Zaria, FUE Zaria, Professor Kabir Haruna Danja, has urged students of the University to uphold discipline, exemplary character and responsible leadership as indispensable qualities for academic success and national development.

Professor Danja gave the charge while representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Yahaya Isa Bunkure, at the 2025/2026 Annual Leadership and Mentorship Workshop organised by the Students' Representative Council, SRC. The event, themed "Uniting Students through Effective Leadership and Meaningful Progress," was held at Lecture Theatre II of the University.

Delivering the Vice-Chancellor's address, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed the University's commitment to creating an enabling environment that promotes quality teaching, learning and students' development. He assured participants that the Management would continue to support initiatives that foster leadership, character formation, academic excellence and meaningful student engagement.

Professor Danja cautioned students against cultism, drug abuse and other social vices capable of undermining their education and future ambitions. He emphasised that university education is not merely about earning certificates but about developing responsible, disciplined and patriotic citizens equipped to make positive contributions to society.

He reminded the students that the Federal University of Education, Zaria, awards its certificates based on both character and learning. He urged them to remain law-abiding and uphold the University's rules, regulations and core values throughout their stay on campus.

According to him, the institution remains steadfast in its mission of producing graduates who are academically excellent, morally upright and globally competitive, in line with its vision of advancing quality education and national development.

Earlier, the Dean of Students' Affairs, Malam Abdullahi Abdulkadir, described the workshop as a timely initiative designed to nurture future leaders through mentorship, capacity building and value reorientation.

He encouraged participants to actively engage in the sessions, interact with resource persons and translate the knowledge and experiences gained into effective leadership and academic excellence.

The workshop featured paper presentations and interactive discussions on innovation, advocacy, student-centred governance, collaboration among student leaders, effective communication, emotional intelligence and responsible decision-making. The sessions were aimed at equipping participants with practical leadership skills to enable them to contribute positively to the University community and society at large.
