The thanksgiving ceremony, held at Ebenezer Anglican Church of Nigeria, attracted academics, government officials, clergy, community leaders, friends, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate what many described as a transformative era in the history of the institution.
The event, which commenced in the morning amid widespread excitement, was officiated by the Bishop of Ika Diocese, Rt. Revd. Godfrey I. Ekpenisi.
In his sermon, Bishop Ekpenisi described leadership as a divine responsibility and commended Prof. Chiemeke for what he termed a remarkable legacy of diligence, excellence, and institutional development during her five-year tenure as Vice-Chancellor.
According to the cleric, the large turnout at the event reflected the impact of her leadership and commitment to service.
“Excellence is the signature of Godly service,” he stated, urging leaders to pursue accountability, gratitude, and excellence regardless of the challenges confronting them.
He further noted that Prof. Chiemeke’s contributions extended beyond the university community, adding that her influence had positively impacted Agbor, Ekwuoma, and other parts of Delta State.
Speaking during the service, Prof. Chiemeke attributed the success of her administration to divine grace and the support of colleagues, friends, and members of the university community.
“God Almighty is the secret of my success. He gave me the strength to overcome challenges and the grace to excel,” she said while expressing appreciation to supporters and well-wishers.

Following the church service, the celebration continued at a reception venue where guests were entertained with cultural displays, music, and a variety of local and continental dishes in a festive atmosphere.
The event drew several high-profile personalities from government, academia, and the private sector.
Among those present was the Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, who represented Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Also in attendance were former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Secretary to the State Government Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu, and Vice-Chancellor-designate Prof. Eric Eboh.
Top officials of the university present at the event included Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Patrick Ijeh, Registrar Barr. Richmond Omagbemi, Bursar Dr. Sunny Ikeogwu, Librarian Dr. Vera Okonoko, and Registrar-designate Dr. Mrs. Esther Akpojuvie.
The gathering also featured deans, directors, academic staff, clergy members, and traditional leaders, further underscoring the significance of the occasion within the academic and social landscape of Delta State.
