Emir of Dutse Decries Rising Rate of Corps Members Seeking Relocation

The Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Hamim Muhammad Nuhu Sunusi, has expressed concern over the growing number of Corps Members and their parents requesting relocation to states of their choice. He voiced this concern while hosting the NYSC Jigawa State Coordinator, Alhaji Jidda Dawut, at his palace in Dutse.

The Emir warned that if this trend continues unchecked, it could undermine the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme’s primary objective of promoting unity among Nigerians through the deployment of graduates to regions outside their comfort zones. He urged the NYSC management to resist pressures for relocation and to strictly enforce its posting policy.

"NYSC is the binding force of Nigeria's unity, and if relocation is encouraged, it will erode the mission and vision of the scheme's founding fathers," the Emir stated. He emphasized that indiscriminate relocations have negative impacts, especially on communities like Dutse, where there is a need for young, professional graduates to contribute to critical sectors of the local economy.

The Emir called for a complete halt to relocations unless there is a genuine reason, stating, "Relocation should not be taken lightly as it affects states that rely on Corps Members for development."

The royal father also expressed his appreciation for the visit from the NYSC Coordinator and commended the scheme’s efforts in fostering unity and socio-economic development across the country.

In response, the NYSC Jigawa State Coordinator, Alhaji Jidda Dawut, thanked the Emir for his continuous support for the scheme. Dawut also sought the assistance of traditional leaders in sensitizing their communities to offer support to Corps Members deployed to the state.
