Enugu State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Christiana Salmwang, recently debriefed the 2024 Batch B Stream 2 corps members as they prepare to transition to their places of primary assignment and relocation states. The session marked the culmination of their orientation course and emphasized the importance of familiarizing themselves with NYSC official publications.
Commending the corps members for their discipline and comportment during the orientation, Mrs. Salmwang highlighted the necessity of thoroughly understanding the NYSC by-laws and orientation guide. These documents, she noted, are crucial resources that will guide the corps members throughout their service year.
Salmwang addressed the corps members on several key points, including the importance of accepting their Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) postings with an open mind and resisting any undue rejection. She reassured them that their postings, spanning various sectors such as education, industry, healthcare, and commerce, align with federal government policy.
The Coordinator also underscored the role of Local Government Inspectors (LGIs) and Zonal Inspectors (ZIs) as vital sources of support, describing them as "parental figures" who will provide guidance throughout the service year. She emphasized the importance of respecting the cultural norms and traditions of host communities to foster national unity and peace.
Addressing safety concerns, Salmwang advised corps members to be vigilant and avoid late-night activities and interactions with individuals of questionable character. She urged them to report to their PPA before any travel and to break journeys at secure locations such as police stations, military barracks, or NYSC lodges.
The debriefing session concluded with the formal introduction of Zonal and Local Government Inspectors and the dissolution of camp committees, marking the end of the orientation course for the 2024 Batch B Stream 2 corps members. Mrs. Salmwang provided her contact information for any further assistance and extended her best wishes for a successful service year.
