ESUT College of Medicine Set to Hold 14th Induction Ceremony for Medical Graduands

The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) College of Medicine will hold its 14th induction ceremony for 48 medical graduands from the 2016/2017 academic session on October 29, 2024. The event, starting at 10:00 am at ESUT College of Medicine Parklane, Enugu, will be supervised by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) College of Medicine is set to hold its 14th induction ceremony for medical graduands on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. The ceremony, which will take place at the ESUT College of Medicine (ESUCOM) Parklane, Enugu, is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am at the College Auditorium.

A total of 48 graduands from the 2016/2017 academic session will be inducted into the medical profession during the event, which will be overseen by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN). The ceremony marks a significant milestone for the graduands, officially recognizing them as medical doctors qualified to practice in Nigeria.

The induction lecture will be delivered by Professor Anthony Edeh, a former Head of the Department of Surgery at ESUT. The Vice-Chancellor of ESUT, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, will serve as the Chief Host, while the Provost of the College, Professor Uchenna Ekwochi, will be the Host of the event.

Dr. Obinna Nduagubam, Chairman of the publicity sub-committee for the ceremony, highlighted the importance of the induction in an interview with ESUT Monitor. "The induction officially declares fresh medical graduands and initiates them into the world of medical practice. It gives them the privilege to work as medical doctors in the profession," he said.

He further explained that the MDCN, which regulates the practice of medicine in Nigeria, is responsible for certifying that the graduands have met the necessary requirements and are fit to work as medical doctors. "They are the ones that certify that the graduands are medical doctors who have gone through the rigours of medical training and are qualified in character and learning to practice," Dr. Nduagubam noted.

This year's induction ceremony represents the 14th batch of medical graduands from the ESUT College of Medicine, featuring students from the 2017 set.
