Ex-VC, Ambali heads KWASU’s new Governing Council

A former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, OON, has been appointed as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete .

The appointment of the award-winning Professor of Veterinary Medicine, who headed the nation’s most sought-after University, from 2012 to 2017, was announced last Wednesday (January 24, 2024) by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kwara State, Mr Rafiu Ajakaye.

Other members of the new KWASU Governing Council are the Director, Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies, University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ibrahim Jawondo; Professor Aishetu Abdulkadir; Mr Teju Oguntoye; Mr Abdullahi Biogera; and Mrs Daudu Funmilayo Maryam, who represents the host community and the youth constituency.

Mr Ajakaye said that the appointments  take  immediate effect.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has welcomed the appointment of Prof. Ambali as the Chairman of KWASU Governing Council.

Prof. Egbewole, in a statement signed by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, described the appointment as well-deserved  and outrightly fascinating.

The UNILORIN Vice Chancellor added that the Governor could not have gotten a better person to hold the position at this point in time considering the glittering versatility and exceptional capacities of Prof. Ambali as an academic and administrator of many years standing.

Prof. Egbewole also congratulated Prof. Jawondo for making the list of members of the Council, saying that the distinguished Professor of History and International Studies has always made the University of Ilorin very proud.

The Vice Chancellor, who charged the two gentlemen to take the job with their characteristic professionalism, integrity and patriotism, expressed the confidence that the duo would work with others to ensure that KWASU is piloted towards the continuous achievement of its corporate objectives.

Prof. Egbewole wished Prof. Ambali and others a very peaceful and rewarding tenure of office.
