Federal Polytechnic Ukana Rector Commends E’ekpede Initiative on Civic Education
The Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, Mrs. Eduma Enobong Essien, has hailed the E’ekpede Initiative for its efforts in promoting civic education and voter awareness, describing civic engagement as a crucial pillar for sustaining democracy.

Mrs. Essien made the remarks on Friday while receiving members of the group in her office. She praised the initiative for sensitizing Nigerians about the importance of participating in the ongoing voter registration exercise, noting that such efforts are essential to addressing voter apathy in the country. She described the group’s vision as “bold and patriotic” and pledged the Polytechnic’s support for its civic engagement programmes.
Highlighting the Polytechnic’s achievements under her leadership, Mrs. Essien commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for education sector reforms, which she said have positively impacted the institution. She noted that beyond programme accreditation, the Polytechnic now offers skills training and certification in areas such as garment making, furniture production, welding, and fabrication.

She also lauded Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio for his leadership and legislative interventions, which have benefited the Polytechnic and other tertiary institutions nationwide.
Earlier, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of E’ekpede Initiative, Adede Kufre Inima, commended Mrs. Essien for her accomplishments within a short period, including the accreditation of 19 academic programmes within three months of assuming office. He described the initiative as a rebirth of civic consciousness and a reaffirmation of collective destiny, and also praised President Tinubu, Senate President Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno, PhD, for their visionary leadership.
During the visit, the group conferred on the Rector the title of E’ekpede Ambassador and invited her to participate in its upcoming activities. The event also featured the presentation of branded materials and a statement of purpose to the Rector.
